Dream Foundation to Fulfill Dying San Diego Man’s Dream to Give Wife Honeymoon They Never Had

Press Release | February 3, 2016

The national dream-granting organization will present 30-year-old brain cancer patient Michael Lavorin with dream package for Las Vegas spa getaway

Santa Barbara, CA – February 3, 2016 – Dream Foundation—the only national dream-granting organization for terminally ill adults and their families—will fulfill 30-year-old Michael Lavorin’s dying dream to give his 27-year-old wife Cynthia the honeymoon they never had.

In advance of the couple’s upcoming getaway, volunteer Dream Hosts representing the BioOncology firm Genentech—a Dream Foundation Corporate Partner in Dreams—will come to the Lavorins’ home, where they will present the couple with their travel itinerary and details, as well as special surprises meant to enhance the dream experience. This festive Dream Delivery celebration will occur at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 17th. Press is invited to attend. San Diego location will be disclosed upon confirmation of attendance.

Lavorin’s dream package includes accommodations and a couple’s spa experience at the MGM Grand Hotel, a longtime In-Kind Partner in Dreams.

Lavorin has been diagnosed with end stage brain cancer and given a life expectancy of less than one year.

“Life can be pretty complicated,” he wrote in an application letter to Dream Foundation. “I had planned to do many things later in life, but now it turns out I’m falling short on time. I’ve battled cancer for the majority of my adult life. As a result, money has always been tight for me. My wife and I married just weeks after my first surgery, and ‘til this day we’ve never had a honeymoon or real vacation of any type.”

As Dream Foundation serves the final dreams of adults representing all 50 states from its national headquarters in California, the organization works with its corporate and in-kind partners, and affiliated volunteers to ensure everyone’s dream experience maintains a sense of community.

According to Dream Foundation Executive Director Kisa Heyer, “We are overjoyed to be giving life to Michael’s final dream, offering him and Cynthia an opportunity to find inspiration, comfort, and closure. Many thanks to our team of volunteer Genentech Dream Hosts for delivering the dream, and to our friends at the MGM Grand Hotel for providing the backdrop for an unforgettable memory-making experience.”
